ANTHROPOLOGIST

to glimpse
between the beige fronds and sharp blades and tough twisty roots
of
the
comfort stink undergrowth
creeping on the party pier beach
of tall cool cocktails and free skin dancing
and
see
and
sense
the lightness of simple evenings away and out and living in time
were tomorrow is only tomorrow
and the future some beacon glowing a comfort glow
is
to
be
as
a cold blue anthropologist
lit by curiosity with hands paused from notes for thinking
keen
to
join
the subject fray but not yet
he will sit awhile in the big yellow sunset
cut into gold bars by tall grass
and let
the
glimpse grow nurtured careful not to sour
